The **Black Rock Scorpion** (*Urodacus manicatus*) is a species of burrowing scorpion native to Australia. It is commonly found in dry forests, woodlands, and rocky environments, where it shelters under rocks or in burrows that help regulate temperature and humidity.

This scorpion is relatively small, typically growing to about 5 cm (2 inches) in length. It has a dark, almost black body with lighter-colored legs and pincers. Despite its intimidating appearance, its venom is not considered dangerous to humans, causing only mild pain and localized swelling if stung.

The Black Rock Scorpion is nocturnal and primarily preys on insects and other small invertebrates, using its pincers to capture prey before delivering a venomous sting if necessary. It plays an important role in controlling insect populations in its ecosystem.

Unlike many other scorpion species, *Urodacus manicatus* does not rely heavily on its venom for hunting, instead preferring to overpower its prey with its strong pincers. It is also known for its ability to dig complex burrows that provide protection from predators and extreme weather conditions.

This species is commonly kept in captivity by scorpion enthusiasts due to its manageable size and mild venom. However, like all scorpions, it should be handled with care to avoid stress or accidental stings.

Note: We source our scorpions responsibly and ethically, respecting the natural habitats from which they originate.
